Carey Dinner Theatre will celebrate its 52nd anniversary with a musical revue called “Country Is: The Music of Main Street.” It opens July 9 at ��̫��ӳ��’s Tatum Theatre.

“We looked around at some of the celebrations being planned for the United States’ 250th birthday. Many include a historical overview, and we think this show gives people a chance to enjoy the music generations of us have enjoyed,” said Tim Matheny, dean of the ��̫��ӳ�� School of Arts & Letters.

“Country Is: The Music of Main Street” traces the history of country music from Hank Williams and Patsy Cline to the Zac Brown Band and Lady Antebellum – with sections called Greetin’, Workin’, Lovin’, Leavin’, Singin’ and Prayin’.

This year’s troupe of actors and technicians hail from ��̫��ӳ��, University of Southern Mississippi, Mississippi College, University of New Hampshire, University of Alabama, and Auburn University at Montgomery.

Managing Director Obra Quave is a founding member of Carey Dinner Theatre.

“It’s been wonderful to see Carey Dinner Theatre grow to become a Hattiesburg tradition. I’m not sure any of us in that very first group really envisioned what it would become,” Quave said.

Performances will be July 9-25, except Sundays, at Tatum Theatre. Dinner is at 6:30 p.m. and the performance follows. Tickets are $40, which includes both dinner and the show.
